Three-Piece Dining Set - Product Design

The prompt for Sam's three-piece dining set assignment was to make a decorative vase, bowl, and candle holder out of bent metal and wood. These three items needed to be visually cohesive and utilize both materials. Additionally, the metal needed to be finished with a powder coat of white, black, or clear paint. Metal could not be glued to metal, only screwed to wood or trapped between two pieces of glued wood.

Sam chose to prioritize linework and visual lightness with his set. The repetition of tapered thin metal lines is meant to create a graphic cohesion between the pieces while keeping their visual weight similar. The layers of veneer within the plywood are meant to continue this linework through the wood elements of each piece.
